Indonesia is Joining the ATA Carnet System!

Roanoke Trade is pleased to announce Indonesia as the world’s 75th member nation to join the international ATA Carnet network. This much anticipated trading partner of the U.S. will begin accepting and issuing ATA Carnets on May 15, 2015.

As the world’s fourth most populous nation, Indonesia has become an economic leader in Southeast Asia. A secular state with strong political ties to the U.S., Indonesia is a magnet for U.S. industries specifically the energy and aerospace sectors. Heavy investments in aircraft, rail transport equipment, oil and gas have helped lead to double-digit growth in U.S. exports to Indonesia over the past five years.

Indonesian Customs will accept ATA Carnets for two categories of goods: Professional Equipment, and Exhibitions and Fairs. “This will immensely simplify the temporary export process for U.S. businesses providing services with the support of tools of the trade, as well as those looking to exhibit at international trade shows in  Indonesia,” comments Amanda Barlow, Vice President of ATA Carnet. “However, Indonesia will not initially accept goods being entered as Commercial Samples. This will only limit the use of ATA Carnet entries into Indonesia to exclude private sales meetings. Indonesias acceptance of two of the three ATA Carnet categories of goods is a great step to further cementing our trade relations in Southeast Asia and the growth of our exports.”

Demonstrating their commitment to the ATA Carnet community Indonesian Customs will offer 24 hour service in certain Customs offices: Kantor Pelayanan Utama Bea dan Cakai Tip A Tanjung Priok, Jakarta; and Kantor Pengawasan dan Pelayanan Bea dan Cukai, Tipe Madya Pabean Soekamo-Hatta, Tangerang, Banten. All other Customs offices in Indonesia are entitled to handle ATA Carnets during their regular office hours (7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.).

The ATA Carnet system provides companies looking to export to Indonesia a cost-effective means for moving products to this new market. The ATA Carnet fulfills the exporters need to provide customs authorities with a form of financial guarantee typically required by Indonesian Customs at time of import.  ATA Carnets work like a passport for commercial merchandise as they allow not only duty free, but also tax free temporary entry into 100 countries and their customs territories. ATA Carnets are used by aerospace engineers, manufacturers, clothing companies, jewelers, touring musicians, television networks, universities, trade show exhibitors and many other businesses and nonprofits that need to temporarily bring goods into foreign countries.

Roanoke Trade was appointed the first service provider for ATA Carnets in the United States by the U.S. Council for International Business (USCIB). Roanoke Trade has provided insurance solutions for the trade and transportation industry since 1935.
